Many people came across my site because of Corrinne May‘s songs. Since I started this site, I happened to know about this talented singer/ composer and blogged about her. Never did I expect after transcribing her On the Side of Me and posted on my blog, I keep on receiving comments and suggestions to come up with her other songs.

Actually, transcribing Corrinne May’s song is relatively difficult. Unlike other songs, Corrinne May’s songs are very sentimental, soft and instrumental. It’s really near to unplugged performance. Therefore I tried my best to produce the utmost original transcription that I can.

This time, the long waited “The Birthday Song” from Corrinne May is finally available. Seems that this is the most anticipated piano sheet after “On the Side of Me”. I know that there are more, and maybe not this one. So many requests, but really, I can only do them one by one…

Corrinne May – The Birthday Song Piano Sheet Preview

The piano sheet is designed in 2 sections: The main melody and the piano accompaniment. It’s very useful if you can play and sing at the same time. I’ve added the piano tabs and lyrics as well, again, a very good indicator to follow the music.

Most probably I am among the first few people to publish this piano sheet online.

Till date, I have not watched Sex and the City film. I’ve planned to watch it, but just couldn’t find a perfect timing with relaxed mood to be in the cinema with mouthful of popcorn.

I’ll wait to see Carrie Bradshaw at my own television later.

Although I may be late to watch the movie, I am still an early bird for the soundtrack! I forwarded through each songs and found this song called “It’s Amazing“. And amazing-ly, Jem sang it.

The opening is very classical, it makes me wonder why a harmonic minor scale can be plugged into a film that’s related to Sex and City. The song came to a twist when Jem’s voice enters with rhythmic bass at the background.

I have to admit that the harmonic minor scale made this song more extraordinary and it led me to transcribing it. (For those who are not familiar with Jem, she is a Welsh. Other than this song, she sang another popular song – “They“)

As usual, some points to take note regarding this piano sheet:

1. The piano sheet is designed at its original key, i.e. C Minor (3 Flats).
2. Lyrics and chords included.
3. The part where Jem’s singing is electronically distorted part is also transcribed. Therefore this piano sheet is completely put onto paper without any deletion of bars.

Lastly, this piano sheet is again, fairly easy with not many harmonics. For not-so ambitious players, feel free to give it a try.

I just don’t know why, Kenji Wu (吴克群) sparked conflicts in the entertainment industry several times, ending up being accused of copying others’ music and lack of creativity. Rumours said that Jay Chou rallied Kenji on his music due to this reason.

Well, rumour is rumour. We shall separate personally feelings and music before going deeper into the discussion.

 
I am Kenji

Ironically, Writing a Poem for You (为你写诗) does not sound so nice when I first listened to it. It was nice, I mean, but is not nice enough to be recommended. The creative part of this song is to insert a piano piece that sounds like a “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” concerto as the bridge halfway. Jay has done this several times if we want to compare.

However, the MTV of this song does not look so bad.

Unlike those legendary crystal grand piano that was showcased in Jay’s live concert, Kenji chose this yellow-painted upright piano….which looks a little more special than the dull pianos we used to see.

I suppose guitar players will have fun with this song because the song starts with pure guitar accompaniment at the beginning. The presence of chords helps, so I’d suggest guitarist to play this.

Gary (曹格) is a Malaysian, to be specific, he is a Sabahan.

He had been drifting from Malaysia to Canada, and from Canada to New Zealand throughout his childhood. And what a coincidence, I just knew that my sister, who spent her few years studying in Auckland is an acquaintance of Gary Cao!

So, Gary! Listen carefully, if you read this post, contact me! No joke man, my sister really knows you.

Ok, I’m done with the personal part. Let’s continue with his music.

Gary mentioned that his music career was not successful from the start. He even revealed that he once had the idea of ending his life when he could not find his way in his life. Not knowing which path to choose and going through some turmoils at the same time is certainly demotivating.

That was the past, and Gary is a blinking star who never surrenders to destiny. His music, always the style of “Gary”, proves to be well-accepted by us.

I like his Betrayal (背叛) a lot.

Even before Taiwanese star search show indirectly promoted this song, I already thought that this song is a wonderful masterpiece. Even though some people claimed that the contestants made this song famous instead of Gary himself, I still think that the song itself deserves the fame…

I spent some time transcribing this song into a piano sheet. The original key is in B Major, but I transposed it into C Major out of convenience. Chords and lyrics are included.

Bloody, this Korean drama is really bloody. Too much blood during the filming of surgery till I managed to get used to it when I finished the whole drama.
