The Painted Veil – River Waltz

September 6th, 2008 by Ah Doe

If no one ever raises this request, I’d probably forgot about this song from The Painted Veil movie.

The Painted Veil Poster

I watched this movie almost one year ago

There are several requests for the piano sheet of this song, some even asked for the MP3. Some of them are inquiring the availability of River Waltz’s sheet music in the market. Till then, I was not sure how River Waltz sounds like, until…

Nan posted this link in his comment:

Therefore, my first hand source of this music is from this video.

If you like The Painted Veil/ the music in this video/ Waltz, there’s no reason you’ll dislike this piano sheet. I’ve tried to keep to its originality, i.e. the same key C Major and without accidentals. This is a pure instrumental music, therefore there’s no lyrics in the sheet music. Nope, no chords as well because it is a piano piece.

I’ll recommend you to check on the video before playing, you’ll definitely know how this piano sheet sounds like, if you play like this piano Guru in this video.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Theme Song – You and Me (我和你)

August 29th, 2008 by Ah Doe

The 2008 Beijing Olympic fever is definitely not over yet…

There was this controversial topic about little Lin Miao Ke (林妙可)’s lip sync performance during the opening ceremony, discussion on how the facilities such as the Bird Nest stadium shall be put to good use after the games. And recently, some guys spread their findings on the medal tally that appears to match the date and time when the terrible earthquake hit Sichuan Province.

2008 Beijing Olympic Medal Tally

51, 21 and 28 for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively…the numbers remind some observant people about the Sichuan Earthquake on 12 May (512), exactly at 2:28pm. What a coincidence!

As for myself, I’m obsessed with Beijing Olympic’s mascots! My latest craziest move was to spend more than $20 to buy kiddo’s McD Happy Meals in order to collect all five of them!

Those who have watched the olympic opening ceremony should know the theme song. It is somehow different from all the olympic theme songs that I’ve heard before and I can feel that this song is delivering a message to bring peace and harmony to the world (Especially a chaotic world we are in now).

This song is in dual language, Chinese and English. Sarah Brightman and the famous Soprano Liu Huan (刘欢) managed to express this song perfectly. One Ang Moh and one Asian, Asian sings Ang Moh part and Ang Moh sings Chinese part, two different skin tone people singing this song in the eyes of the world…even if you don’t listen to the song, this combination is already telling you the olympic’s moto:

ONE WORLD ONE DREAM

The MV is touching….I have to admit

And of course the song too…

This piano sheet/ music score is in original key. In fact, there are a few transpositions in the whole song. Male vocal enters at B Flat Major and transposes to A Major when female sings. When choir and Male take over again, the key switches to B Major and finally ends at C Major.

I have included the lyrics and chords, done the music sheet in two parts: accompaniment and melody.

It may be complicated, but considering that the melody is actually very simple, all you have to deal is the key and some swift scales…

It’s up to you…

Love Song for #1 by Corrinne May

August 21st, 2008 by Ah Doe

Do I still need to elaborate more on this song?

Don’t think so…because this is one of the popular requests by many people out there. Those who requested this should know this song better than me.

Aiyoyo, this is already the third Corrinne May’s song that I’ve transcribed into piano sheet. What an interesting numbering…my third Corrinne May song transcription and it’s called Love Song for #1! (Maybe we can buy a combination of 1 and 3 for the Toto hor?)

As usual, her songs are more difficult for me to jot down because it’s too pure. If I simply fill in the notes by my own creativity, smart people like you guys will be able to tell easily. Therefore, I’ve tried my best to keep this transcription as original as possible.

The Hokkien Song from Money Not Enough 2 (钱不够用2)

August 13th, 2008 by Ah Doe

You see har, Ah Doe is trying to be multi-national in her piano sheets collection.

Got English Songs, Chinese Songs, Malay Songs, Japanese Songs, Korean Songs…

And today…what a breakthrough! We have Hokkien Song Piano Sheet!!!

Money Not Enough 2 Movie Poster

If you have watched Money Not Enough 2, heed my advice: Bring more tissue papers… Be it the laughters or the tears, just bring more ok?

Although the movie plot is kinda exaggerating, the values behind it is worth pondering. It’s funny, but more realistic compared to the first episode. At least it’s not a movie which you just “Hahaha” in the cinema and walk out from it with not much inputs.

This song is sung by Hokkien Diva Jiang Hui “江蕙”, named 家后 or “Dearest Kin” by translation. My advice to you, read and understand the lyrics before listening to the original song:

When we are old with no one else beside us,
We will sit on the couch and listen to your adventurous stories when you were young,
It doesn’t matter on what we eat and I won’t complain,
I will hold your hands tightly,
because I am your dearest kin.

Chorus

I married you at my prime and followed you since then,
Seen through lots of things,
Who else can be more important than you?
I dedicate my whole life to you,
and realize that happiness is leading a cat and dog life.
When our time is up,
I’ll let you go ahead of me because…
I can’t bear to see you cry for me.

When we are old with sons and their wives,
Let’s recall how handsome you were while looking at our wedding photo if you are bored,
It doesn’t matter on what we wear and I won’t complain,
I will always put you in my heart,
because I am your dearest kin.

And finally, the piano sheet:

This piano sheet is designed at its original key, i.e: C Major. This is the first music score with plenty of ornaments. If you know Hokkien songs, ornaments really plays important role when a verse is spread through multiple notes!

Erm? What else? Chords and lyrics are included as well…

Take a Bow by Rihanna

August 7th, 2008 by Ah Doe

After the repetitive “Umbrella, ela, ela eh”, finally Rihanna is not stuck at the same word anymore.

Just kidding…

If you tune into radio now, you might hear Rihanna’s new song – Take a Bow! Just only few months after releasing her latest album called Good Girl Gone Bad, Take a Bow is already in the Billboard Chart. This Barbados borned young lady is incredibly powerful!

Please don’t get confused by another song by Madonna of the same name, by the way.

Again, a tribute from Ah Doe this time, the piano sheet of Rihanna’s Take a Bow:

This is written at the original key, E Major. You may find the piano chords and lyrics in the piano sheet as well. Difficulty level is moderate because the accompaniment is always repeating.
