No other music can sound as melancholy as Ennio Morricone’s La Donna Romantica in this setting. What a brilliant choice.

I’ve made the piano sheet for this song. It’s quite easy for most piano players but to get the mood right, that’s the tricky part.

I guess most Singaporeans and Malaysians know this song but they might not know its name until they hear the classic riff.

To my surprise, this song is from a Singapore band called Tokyo Square. According to Internet resource, Tokyo Square was formed in 1985 by Max Surin. Honestly, it’s a bold endeavour during that time to combine Western (Electric guitars, bands) and Eastern (Gu Zheng at the start and Chinese lyrics) elements in a song, but the creativity did pay off.

A Simple Life (桃姐) proves that a good movie does not necessarily need overloaded computer graphics and hightech gimmicks like 3D filming. The storyline itself is the whole selling point and it touches my heart.

Andy Lau (刘德华) and Deanie Ip (叶德娴) don’t seem like “acting” in the movie at all, and that should be the reason why this movie swept many trophies in several film awards.

Of course, the credit should also be awarded to the director of this move, Ann Hui (许鞍华).

The theme song starts playing at the beginning of the movie. It’s gentle, soothing and touching.
